(mx) wrote: A very dry little film about a young woman who's deeply in need of redemption, and finds it, sort of. It's not a perfect movie by any means, but I laughed quite a lot while watching it, and how anyone can call it "an ugly bit of work" (remind me never to have drinks with this David Ehrlich guy) is beyond me.

(au) wrote: This is not a romantic comedy. Extremely superficial and tepid romance going on here. Hollywood doesnt seem to make good old fashioned romantic movies anymore. Chemistry between Eckhart and Aniston was so fake that it was painful to watch. The movie consists of one ridiculous clich (C) after another. So easy to predict, you can do so from beginning till the end.

(gb) wrote: Sherman Alexie is one of most important Native American fiction writers of the past century, and with this adaptation of his short story we see the real strife of these people, living in reservations. The film follows a young man (Beach) and an old friend (Adams) who take a road trip to put his father to rest. The film deals with prevalent issues in the Native American community including poverty, alcoholism, and racism from a heavily white population. Having Native American protagonists and a heavily NA cast is pretty unheard of in many films, even recently, and seeing this story made is really quite interesting. The story is a little rushed, as the journey takes a short amount of time. Most of what we see is Victor (Beach) trying to understand the legacy that his father has left for him. We see a transformation, but it goes by so fast that it's hard to savor exactly what has occurs before the story inevitably ends. We're also not sure what either Thomas or Victor will ultimately do now that this "adventure" has taken place. It just doesn't have the strength behind it that the original story invokes.

(jp) wrote: This sci fi action thriller is suspenseful. Kept me on the edge of my seat.A group of survivors of a harrowing crash landing explore the desert planet they've landed on, trying to figure out how to replenish their dwindling resources. It seems they need to be afraid of an escaped convict, a superhuman named Riddick. It turns out there is more than just Riddick to fear on this world with 3 suns and the sun scorched bones of extinct giants.Murphy's law is definitely in play, although human error and choices do come into play as well. How far will smarts, guts, and teamwork get you? Who will be lucky? Having a badass superhuman named Riddick on your side might increase your chances...or will it? I didn't consider this a happy ending. Too many characters I wanted to see live didn't make it. When I saw who made it to the end, my reaction was "Really? That's it?" But, at least Riddick gets his final revenge on those nasty ravenous aliens.Another reviewer mentioned being disappointed that Claudia Black died so soon. Agreed.
