The sense of mystery is built up, shot by exquisite shot, beat by natural beat, to the finale of the village girls signing in at the dance. The last shot itself leaves you with exactly what Palfi wanted: a sense of things being understood within the community itself, without ever being fully resolved. Palfi (much like Noe, who was debuting at more or less the same time) has gone on to direct the brilliant though much ignored Taxidermia. A director of incredible vision!!
