Matt Damon plays beautifully a difficult character, in its simplicity, navet and honest emotions. The "palatial kitsch" becomes natural to the public, like the portrait of a time when gay codes where not explicitly perceived by the average man.

Nik M (es) wrote: Considering it comes from one of the strongest, groundbreaking graphic novels of all time, the animated adaptation doesn't seem to live up to much. The added portions of Batgirl's backstory is unreasonable and ends up misreading what the original story focused on. It tries to put a spotlight on the emotional tugging of the story - misplacing it in the process (from Joker to Batgirl) - instead of focusing more answering solid questions that expand and explore the moralistic grounds of the story (ex: what defines Gordon's morals? What grounds do Batman and Gordon share in morality? What's the difference?). While the voice acting is good, as per usual with Conroy and Hamill, and the animation is simply OK, the rest of the film only benefits in spots that are directly taken from the novel, which leads one to ask "Why bother watching the film when I gain more from the novel?" The answer: you don't bother.
