A group of scientists are put together and sent down to research the vessel. They discover some beings were there before and a unique sphere sits in the middle of the craft that causes the individuals who encounter it to behave differently and manifest their fears. Can the group of scientists overcome their fears and escape?"You seem strangely detached."Barry Levinson, director of Wag the Dog, Sleepers, Bugsy, Rain Man, Toys, The Natural, Avalon, Liberty Heights, Disclosure, and Good Morning, Vietnam, delivers Sphere. The storyline for this picture is based on the fantastic book by Michael Crichton (which was way better). The special effects and pace of this film were just okay and the acting was mediocre as well despite having a solid cast of Samuel L. Jackson, Dustin Hoffman, and Sharon Stone."It's a bogus report."I was excited to see this movie when it first came out because I loved the book so much; unfortunately, this falls well flat of the book. This wasn't as intense as it should have been and the ending falls a little flat. Overall, I recommend skipping the movie and reading the book."Your fears are going to kill all of us."Grade: C

Mark D (ca) wrote: Very comic book and OTT. Final 20 mins or so is cracking though, and i adore the crimson exectutioner. Very low budget and very tame and has the worst dubbing i have ever seen.
DC F (de) wrote: I definitely saw the suspenseful scares the writer and director were shooting for. Our menacing, yet mostly absent psycho trucker Rusty Nail had an intense voice and it was funny to see Paul Walker so afraid.
Simon H (mx) wrote: As someone who appreciates the art side of movies, I think this movie is fantastic. While it's not particularly horrifying, and while it feels like a rather typical '80s B horror film, there is one big thing that sets it apart from the norm, B horror or otherwise: the cinematography is M-A-G-I-C-A-L. It's incredibly atmospheric. and plenty of the shots are what I call "poster-worthy". The silhouetted scenes are all stunning, and whenever the sky is in focus you have amazing scenery. This is one of the most beautifully shot movies I have ever seen, and considering it's about a giant killer boar, that's pretty impressive. But great visuals aside, the rest of the movie is exciting enough to warrant a watch. It doesn't have the best of writing, but the story is fine, and its main monster feels somewhat believable. (Somehow, the hillbillies feel less realistic.) Do watch it if you get a chance.
