(gb) wrote: strange that two similar movies was released in the same year. its the cinema photography that holds the atmosphere and some spooky moments. not bad flick a traditional British horror movie revival I think.

You will probably appreciate the movie a bit more. The movie is around the idea of imagination and trying to communicate in a "literature" sense of the character. The background of "cowboy" fantasy, might not be the most effective "theatrical" expression by the people whom study such. But the rebirth of his writing was an interesting one, and the communication was for the kid and the lady. And it captures almost any writer implicit or explicit aware of it in the minds of people.Unless you are solely writing for personal record. But if there is a reason to write for "personal record", its probably because scared that self will forgot something important. Hence, the writing is for a less perfected and memorable self.Doubting what is in Isle Belle island, the craft of theatrical work its poor, I totally agrees that.Even the three daughter's role, is crafted in a way that's predictable after the older girl picks up the diary. It tries to resolve and establish a way for the viewer to untangle conflicts between the characters and merge a "happy ending".But I don't think is wrong, it just that you can only sandwhich so much within a 2 hour movie.

(ag) wrote: Xavier is more unlikable and less interesting than the other characters onscreen, so it's frustrating the movie focuses so heavily on his perspective. Seems to be clearly the writer/director's surrogate; the haphazard introduction and exit of so many more interesting characters than the protagonist is regrettable. Probably the reason I enjoyed The Spanish Apartment more was because of its more ensemble-like character flow.

(ru) wrote: Back when comic book adaptations were really hokey. Seems like they knew the script was bad so they substituted lots of cheesecake and any excuse to have Roberts bounce on a horse or get wet...
(fr) wrote: Reviewing now because this wasnt on Flixster when I watched it back in the Fall. I found that surprising since it was on DVD, had a lot of great names in the cast and was very entertaining.
(de) wrote: I watched this soon after seeing "Gunless" the other quirky Western, that one with a very Canadian sense of humor. "Good for Nothing" is darker both in the number of characters who get shot and in the humor. The videography of the vast scenery is lush and spectacular, and there are a lot of scenery shots which is a very good thing. I assumed the director was in love with Montana where the story is supposed to take place, but it was shot entirely in New Zealand. Fooled me.If one is looking for character development....there is some. Whether that is enough for your tastes will vary! The acting of the main pair keeps one interested in the story. Whether the ending satisfies again will vary with the viewer. I say, just sit back and really enjoy all the gorgeous shots of the scenery and the buffoonery of the posse.

(it) wrote: Not a bad movie, if all you want to see is two big name stars have loads of sex, then this is your movie. If you want a realistic story with a realistic ending, skip it.
