Matt M (es) wrote: Lucky McKee and Chris Sivertson just delivered what can only be considered a balls to the wall, entirely unforgiving picture guaranteed to leave fanatics slack-jawed. All Cheerleaders Die is loaded with unexpected fits of graphic violence, harsh death sequences and pitch-black humor. But it's also anchored by a very well written script that proves McKee and Sivertson have their ears to the ground in which modern pop culture references reverberate endlessly. These two know how to play faithful to today's youngsters, and they also spot and exploit the glaring personality quirks that leave kids today open to borderline sadistic prodding. You've got to love that. How do these filmmakers feel about the youth of today? Watch the movie and draw your own conclusion. I've got my ideas, but I'm not out to put McKee or Sivertson on blast or completely misconstrue their actual stances. Their opinions are their own, and that plays a major factor in my immense enjoyment of this film. There are no punches pulled in this film (ask Terry), and I love its sadistic nature. Gratifying to the absolutely fullest; a mental sustenance that for me does more than satiate, it leaves me proud to be a fan of bold filmmakers. The story is all about revenge, Wicca witches, spells, death, detachment from human logic and awesome murder sequences. The tight knit script only further enhances the film; the impressive young cast keep that trend alive.I see this as a perfect companion piece to John Dies at the End, despite their radically different ideas. There's just something off-kilter enough to seem the perfect suitor for John Dies at the End. Different yes, but both amazingly fun, really, really outrageous in general idea and stuffed with inspired performances from a group of fresh faces that I personally hope we see for years to come. All Cheerleaders Die may be my favorite film of the year. There's still plenty of time before the calendar year has gone, but it's already an incredibly strong contender for Best of 2014. There aren't too many I can see surpassing this one.-Addicted to Horror Movies

Ben L (ag) wrote: The biggest problem with Caddyshack is its title. Before I get there let me assure you, I totally see the humor in this movie, and I laughed a ton. They have the magic of Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, and a comedic unsung hero in Brian Doyle-Murray. An endless supply of brilliant talent, so why in heaven's name do they try to center the story around the caddies?!? From what I understand they did dial back the amount of time spent on the caddies, but they needed to get even more brutal with their cuts and remove the caddies completely. There is not one funny moment or worthwhile scene that happens because a caddie is on-screen. Even the guy who is ostensibly the "protagonist" of the movie, Danny, is annoying and not needed. I'm not sure what the plot would look like if they tried to center it around the golfers, but plot is secondary in this kind of mad-cap comedy. I was impressed with how much of the humor holds up even now, and I really miss these days when every word that came out of Chevy Chase's mouth had the potential to make me double over in laughter. There just wasn't enough time spent with the comedians, and I had no interest or investment in the plot they decided to focus the movie around. Not a bad film, and I can see the sparkles of brilliance that cause people to have such nostalgic love, but I would recommend someone who hasn't seen the movie before just watch the best scenes online and avoid watching the whole thing.

Steven B (ca) wrote: 4.5/5 stars-A great musical that is really not one, save for a few stage perfomances here and there. Judy Garland is well, Judy before the downfall, and she shows why she is perhaps the greatest actress who ever lived (my opinion). This is Gene Kelly's first film, but you wouldn't be able to tell without being informed, because he is spot on and brilliant from the get go. I docked a half star because the last fourth of the movie takes a sharp pro-armed forces turn (this film was made right in the heart of World War II, and even has a PSA to "purchase war bonds at this theater" at the end) that comes out of nowhere. It was a cute little film before that, and then seems like propaganda. Good propaganda for sure, but it didn't fit in. Still, worth a viewing just for the chemistry between Judy and Gene alone.
