(it) wrote: As a teenage girl and a huge fan of romantic comedies, this was a real letdown. Though the performances weren't too bad overall, occasionally Josie (Drew Barrymore's character) had me facepalming at how overdone the awkwardness was. Most of the characters felt underdeveloped and oversimplified, stereotypical at best, and the romance leading up to the final kiss was rushed and clich. The story really falls apart because it isn't the least bit plausible even by the greatest stretches of imagination ? Josie was paid to pose as a high school student for an entire year, only to produce a practically autobiographical article. What's more, an article written out to her unnamed love interest, inviting him to kiss her in front of a stadium full of baseball fans. I can't decide what's more ridiculous, that she wrote the article, that the editors published it, or that he actually showed up. Completely disappointing.

(kr) wrote: This movie was terribly paced with little or no real character development. It could have been a really captivating story, but poor screen writing made it not so great. And Helena Bonham Carter wasn't stunningly gorgeous. How does that even happen?
(ag) wrote: Dark, intricate, perfectly made. I'm not sure how this one isn't as popular as the other top-tier samurai films such as Yojimbo.
