James R (it) wrote: This movie is terrific. Melanie Griffith has gotten a very bad rep. She's beautiful, looks like a classic movie star, and well directed by her husband. Very offbeat, funny & touching. Her supporting cast is terrific too. Meat Loaf as a racist sheriff, David Morse as her kind brother, Cathy Moriarty as the loud, over the top aunt, Elizabeth Perkins as Melanie's competition, Robert Wagner as her sleezy manager and Rod Steiger as the do-right lawyer. Lucas Black also makes quite an impression.I also think that Melanie's speech in the courtroom should have merited an Oscar nomination. It may have been her best performance on film.

And he wasn't even a sadistic prick warden. strange. I enjoyed the story but it seemed to be missing something that I can't quite put my finger on. 2009 Movies: 52
John M (kr) wrote: Definitely one of Woody Allen's best. This film is the staple for all Indie dramedies that have come after and as slapstick and as absurd as it is, it manages to balance in an extremely realistic relationship portrayal while thematically explaining why relationships are worth it in the long run in an effortless manner. Some of the jokes get a little too tired for me and Woody talks the whole movie which could have been toned down a little bit, but I will not deny it ranks supreme in this genre and is extremely iconic for Indie films.
Mark P (us) wrote: There is something incredibly endearing about this supposed Teensploitation flick from the late seventies. Most of the Crown International stuff lacked any sense of irony...and was either creepy and ridiculous like "trip with teacher" starring a young (and equally creepy) Zalman King, or just plain dumb, like the ensemble movies that often show up as companions to this one...Malibu Beach and the Van. The strange thing about Pom Pom Girls is there is such an amiable "slice of life" quality to the action that the movie stands out...the many subplots are barely developed, so that mostly it's a bunch of kids hanging around. Still, the knife fight with Dwayne (the nominal villain) and the ending seem to indicate that there is some thought behind this movie. Very strange in that respect. But totally worth seeing. I celebrate this movie and encourage you to do the same. more later mark
Johannes R (gb) wrote: 5.2.2011 Constantly self-conscious, and with the musical and visual style, the film is an obvious influence on both Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie. The atmosphere of the film is groovy, the editing is inventive and the music has a specific vibe. The thematics of the film about identity play out in an intriguing way. The film also captures something about its period.
